History really comes alive for me when it’s on screen<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I love losing myself in a good series or movie based on historical events. Some are true to the people, places and events, while others take more than their fair share of artistic licence. Either way, I will pore over them and look up the real facts on which they’re based, as I go. Here are some of my favourites:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I, CLAUDIUS<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This masterpiece is a compelling dramatisation of Suetonius’ The 12 Caesars<\/em>. With a cast of British legends, it makes you feel like you are there, in ancient Rome, watching the scheming Julio-Claudian family bring their political ambitions to fruition. I cannot recommend it highly enough! I have watched the series at least ten times. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

793-\u00b1821<\/strong> (Norway, England, Denmark, Russia, Greenland, Iceland, Newfoundland)<\/sub><\/p>\n\n\n\n

VIKINGS<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Excellent insight into what life was like during the emergence of the Viking expansion. Licence is taken with the timeline, but the main events and characters depicted are mostly real, just not necessarily as contemporaries. From King Ecbert’s reign to the Rus invasion of Scandinavia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
